Musings on Love, Faith & Other Tricks of Light
Rick Crockett is the author of four self-published books of poetry. He is also the creator of “Lines On The Face Of Portland,” a framed collection of six impressionistic “wall poems” commemorating the 350th birthday of Maine’s oldest city in 1982. MOSES STUTTERED (Musings on Love, Faith & Other Tricks of Light) represents Rick’s first collection of poems in 27 years. Several of the photographic images that appear in MOSES STUTTERED are from his acclaimed “Tidal Ways” collection. Mr. Crockett’s poetic efforts have been praised and encouraged by the likes of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, whose A CONEY ISLAND OF THE MIND still remains the most popular book of poetry ever sold in the U.S., and whose City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco was the first all-paperbound bookshop in the country. MOSES STUTTERED is now available for sale at City Lights Bookstore.

Here are some quotes extracted from published reviews of Rick’s previous books of poetry, WHAT DO YOU SAY TO AN ATHEIST WHO SNEEZES?, FLESH CRAYONS, and SET THE CHILDREN IN YOUR HEART FREE. *
“The imagery is exhilarating. He makes you think about everyday things. He has a gifted eye. And best of all, he’s easy to read.” Portland Evening Express
“Crockett’s world . . . is an upbeat foxtrot and his sense of rhythm is often right-on. [His] luring and ironic titles . . . are at once sophisticated and accessible. His powers of observation attest to the absurdly humorous aspects of life. Crockett himself is an original. His books are entertaining and very accessible as poetry. He tries to resolve emotional conflicts by seeing the lighter side of serious, i.e. the meaningful incoherence found in our society.” The Independent
“FLESH CRAYONS . . . is one of those rare and delightful books that seems to take every new page as an excuse to discover more and more of the common ground beneath us. In deceptively conversational language, Crockett illuminates the mundane world with care, with irony, but most of all, with a disarmingly direct sense of humor. But his humor, on reflective consideration, masks a serious commitment to wordcraft. In particular, Crockett is a master of timing . . . of the visual pause. It is his control of comic timing, in fact, that first suggests that here is a disciplined talent.” The Wise Guide
“He observes well and shares his inner reactions to those observations of human nature even better. . . . Perhaps Rick Crockett will always be like ‘that child who will always ask too much of his dreams’, . . . [b]ut I think he is destined to greater fame.” BitterSweet
